Meet Raquel & Jay
Meet the couple behind The Onion Tree, Raquel & Jay Jadeja.
The couple met in 2002 while working together right here on Long Island. Together they have owned 6 restaurants starting with WildFlower on Bleecker Street in Manhattan in 2004.
Passionate about food, ingredients and how the two influence Mother Earth and our health - The Onion Tree is the convergence of where Foodie Food meets holistic health.
Chef Jay has always been a Foodie and a self proclaimed wino. He was born and raised in in the Princely State of Rajot in India and began his culinary career at the age of 14 in hotels. He then went on to study at a Hotel School in Switzerland and lived and worked in 9 countries as well as on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines before moving to the U.S.
Chef Jay Jadeja's menus feature authentic flavors and cooking techniques from his upbringing and extensive travels.
Raquel and Jay wed in 2005. And following the birth of their oldest son, Jonah, in 2009, Raquel earned certification as a Holistic Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). In addition to coaching clients one on one, Raquel also founded The Real Food Cleanse - a 14 day lifestyle cleansing program.
In addition to helping to manage and oversee the operations of The Onion Tree, Raquel's holistic health background serves as a inspiration to Chef Jay's menus and the ingredients he sources.
At The Onion Tree, Raquel and Jay demonstrate that wholesome food can still be intensely flavorful, complex and delicious.
